Does drinking water hydrate your skin?

BASE SKNCARE

This week I’m talking about one of the most confusing myths in skincare and it’s also a pet peeve of mine!

Have you ever watched celebrity beauty interviews and heard them declare drinking water alone is the key to their flawless skin?

Don’t get me wrong, drinking plenty of water is absolutely imperative for a healthy, fully-functioning body. However, there is a severe lack of scientific evidence that proves water is all you need to plump and hydrate your skin.

For most healthy people, the water we consume directly helps the functioning of our vital organs, which means there’s very little left to treat our skin cells; No matter how much we guzzle.

This is why skincare is so important, it’s the only proven way to rehydrate your skin effectively. Below are my 3 top tips on products and ingredients to look out for and how to apply them for best results 🥰

#1. Use an actual skin cleanser as opposed to soaps as the foaming agents are very drying. This is why our Hot Cloth Cleanser is formulated as a rich cream, it’s incredible for nourishing you skin as it cleanses.

#2. Use hyaluronic acid in your skincare routine both morning and evening. It’s capable of holding up to 1000x its own weight in water and draws moisture into your skin. Our Super Serum is packed full of it for this very reason 😍

#3. Apply your body moisturiser and skincare routine whilst your skin is still damp as it absorbs easier and locks in hydration…there are many scientific studies to prove this one too!

It goes without saying that you need to keep up with your water intake as well. I aim for 2 litres each day and it really helps with mental clarity, sleep and digestion 🥰
