Amy's personal resolutions for 2023

BASE SKNCARE

My Gran used to dread January with a passion but I have to say, for me, I love the sense of new beginnings that come with a new year. Although I firmly believe you can hit the refresh button at any given moment, I always take this opportunity to reflect and reset.

So, after so many of you kindly voted to see this post over on Instagram, this evening I thought I’d share my personal resolutions that will act as guiding lights over the next 12 months. I would love to know if any of them are similar to yours?

✔️ To upgrade my self-talk

I read a staggering statistic before Christmas that said 90%(!!) of the words we speak to ourselves are negative. Over the past few years, I’ve worked super hard on decreasing this number and fortunately I can say I’ve had great success…But that doesn’t mean I don’t occasionally slip up.

After reading that article I decided to do a little experiment on myself and monitor the negative chatter. What I discovered is that although I don’t stand in the mirror and tear myself apart or look at my work and pick holes in my efforts, I do search for the negatives rather than the positives.

For example, I’ll wake up and look in the mirror to check for any spots or dark circles, rather than look to see how clear and radiant my skin is. When I edit a video, I triple check to make sure nothing is offensive rather than focusing on all the positive information they’re filled with. This is something I’m aiming to change.

I truly believe (and science has proven), that a positive mental attitude can genuinely change your life. So, every time I catch myself thinking, feeling or speaking unkind thoughts, I’m going to replace the words with positive ones and eventually the bad habit will break. I’m sure this is a resolution we’d all benefit from in some capacity.

✔️ To simply focus on the habit…

Growing up my Mum would often say I was like a dog with a bone. Once I get an idea in my head, there’s no stopping me and it’s all I can think and talk about.

Now and again though, especially when a goal is outside of my comfort zone, I become overwhelmed and I’m sure many of you can relate. Questions such as ‘Where do I start?’, ‘How long will it take?’, ‘What do I do if X happens?’, and ‘Is this even right?’ leave me floating in no man’s land.

So recently, I’ve learned to break-down my goals into baby steps and build habits around them instead. This has helped tremendously as I’ve simply focused on completing the daily tasks that gradually move me forward, rather than thinking too far ahead and becoming totally paralysed.

Interestingly, it’s the same principle I always share with clients in clinic and customers when they start their Proactive Age Kit. Don’t obsess over the results, focus on doing your 5-minute routines every day and the transformation will automatically follow.

✔️ To stop using the ‘b’ word

I think we live in a time fuelled by the ‘B’ word…Busy. Do you remember when you used to ask someone how they were and the generic response was ‘Oh I’m fine’. Well in recent years it’s evolved into ‘Just busy’. And I’m not for one second suggesting it’s a lie.

Our lives are fuller than ever before with people juggling work, home life, social calendars, getting through the to-do lists and keeping up with the Instagram Jones’.

The thing is, we’ve become conditioned to be so busy that we believe resting or living at a slower pace, is lazy. I for one know that I always need to be on the go or I feel immense guilt for taking my foot off the gas. However, it’s important to remember that we’re human beings, not human doings and we can’t be the best version of ourselves when we’re burning the candle at both ends.

So, my goal this year is to take some time each week, just to be. I’m not going to give the time away to cleaning or meal-prepping or weekly planning. I’m going to read a book, go for a walk, grab my hula hoop (a recently rekindled obsession) or do anything that fills my cup.

It sounds like a plan to do less, but I have no doubt it’ll allow me to do, be and give a whole lot more…Including taking BASE to a whole new level.

So, strap in for a year full of next level blogs, videos, tips, tricks, results and new product launches. It’s going to be an incredible ride and I’m so grateful to have you here with us 🥰
