The Morning Routine Of A UK Skin Expert

My morning-ish routine

Amy x

Recently, one of my lovely clients said to me that her favourite videos of mine are the ones where I’m just chit-chatting away and sharing little behind the scenes snippets of my life.

So, I asked on Instagram if everyone agreed and to my surprise, it was a resounding yes! So, i thought I’d share what my morning-ish routine looks like to give you an idea of how I start my day.

Now, I say morning-ish because this is how things look approximately 90% of the time, but it’s not always perfect. Some days are so busy I just have to get up and go and others I need to recharge, so an extra hour in bed becomes a must! On a regular day though, this is how I conquer my morning…

First things first, the dreaded alarm goes off at 6am. I use the word ‘dreaded’ simply because I LOVE my beauty sleep and whereas Will (my fiance), has already jumped out of bed like an excitable puppy, I’m far more sloth-like 🦥

The urge to hit the snooze button is all too real, but over the past few years or so, I’ve started to appreciate the magic of mornings. I’ve found this time of the day to be super calming and it gives me just a few hours to focus on myself, before anything else needs my attention.

Once I’m up, I practice my least conventional habit…I head straight to the fridge to grab a cube of dark chocolate 🙈 I know, it doesn’t sound particularly healthy, but I don’t drink caffeine and I swear that that one cube powers me through the next step. Exercise.

As I spend a lot of time on the computer or in appointments with clients, there’s never a guarantee that I’ll move my body enough during the day. So, I make sure to fit it in first thing in the morning. With that being said, I never do anything fancy.

My workout routine is not aesthetically pleasing in any sense, but it’s straightforward and works for me. I simply aim for 30 minutes of movement and it varies between skipping, hula hooping or power walking on the spot, depending on my current ‘phase’ 😂

To ensure I have as few excuses as possible, I always get it done in my pyjamas, in the middle of the living room…Although this means I need clean pjs every evening, I just make the experience as easy as possible so I know I’ll get it done.

Exercise complete and it’s onto the good stuff…Breakfast 😍 If I really want the best results from my brain on any given day, a savoury breakfast is my best bet. Something along the lines of a toasted sandwich is always my go-to, but that doesn’t mean I don’t pour a bowl of granola when I’m in a hurry! I just try to watch my sugar intake as much as possible as it’s one of the worst things for breaking down collagen.

I then follow up with my supplements (I have a full blog on my favourites here) and head to the shower which is normally around 7am. I absolutely love the shower and actually have to set myself a timer so I’m not in there for an hour 😂 It’s made me super efficient and now I can tackle a full hair wash, top to toe hair removal and body cleanse in under 10 minutes…Impressive, right?!

It’ll come as no surprise though that my favourite part of the morning is my 5 Minute Kit. If I’m in a hurry, I literally whiz through the products one after the other, but if I’ve got some time, I drag everything out and give my skin a good massage too. Either way, I love knowing my skin is fully prepped and protected from whatever the day may bring.

Only once I’m dressed and my makeup is on, do I then ‘log on’ and look at my notifications, which is normally around 8am. This is a relatively new addition to my morning habits, but my goodness has it been a total game-changer?!

If you don’t practice this step already, I strongly advise giving it a try. In my experience, taking the first moments of the day to get yourself into a good headspace, always makes it far easier to help everyone else around you later on.

And that’s it 🙌🏼 It’s not a miracle morning by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s simple, effective and works for me. So despite the dreaded alarm, I now genuinely look forward to it and I’ll think of you tomorrow morning when yours is buzzing too 🥰
