The Biggest Skincare Trends For 2022

BASE SKNCARE

Today's blog is all about the biggest skincare trends of 2022. I recently read a brilliant article about it in Vogue and was completely fascinated by their predictions, so I wanted to share some of them with you. Here's a closer look at what their crystal ball has in store for us this year...

- The Natural Look -

Vogue predicts that in 2022, we’ll see a huge rise in makeup routines with a focus on the skincare applied beforehand, or new ‘hybrid’ technologies…and I have to say I totally agree!

More and more of my clients in clinic are talking about their minimal make-up approach, so that they can celebrate a healthy complexion underneath instead.

This reflects my own personal philosophy as I truly believe if you take care of your skin, you’ll never need to cover it up. I bumped into a beautiful 83-year-old lady when I was out walking last week and she said because she’s always looked after her skin, all she wears is lipstick… and she looked flipping fantastic!

- The Rise of the Face Lift -

According to Dr. Naveen Cavale, consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon - face lift surgery shows no signs of slowing down after the ‘Zoom boom’, post Covid. Apparently, he has performed more rhinoplasties (nose jobs) in the last year than the previous three years combined...Wow!!

Although a face lift isn’t on my personal radar, I love the fact that these procedures are becoming more widely discussed without judgement and criticism.

- Results-Driven & Ingredients Focused Skincare -

In 2022, it’s suspected that people will start looking for products based on their ingredients and I’m super chuffed about this one too! Online searches for actives such as Vitamin C, Retinol and Niacinamide are set to soar given they have been scientifically proven to deliver results.

I think this shows how well-educated people are becoming about their skin needs as they want to ensure it receives the right treatment. I’ve always had an ‘ingredients first’ approach to our formulas, as this is what will transform your complexion and achieve your skin goals. It's what the 'A' in BASE stands for...

As techniques develop and results become more natural, if you’ve got concerns you’d like to discuss, always enlist the help of a professional to walk you through the options.

- At-Home Treatments -

It’s been reported that we’ll continue to see at-home skin treatments rise in popularity. People want to take their skincare routine to the next level and are keen to recreate that clinic experience at home with tools and gadgets.

I hear you loud and clear on this one and we have a very exciting new launch in the works that will be coming your way in the next few weeks. Keep your eyes peeled, it's a game-changer!

- Diversity & Inclusion -

Thank goodness is all I can say to this one! The beauty industry is set to offer greater diversity and we will continue to see more ethnicity, gender and age-inclusive marketing across the board.

There’s no need to pigeon-hole anymore and the days of perfectly airbrushed and overly filtered images seem to be on their way out too.

Here’s to banishing the perception of pores, stretch-marks and cellulite as flaws and welcoming a diverse and inclusive approach to an industry in much need of a shakeup. I’m 100% on board!

- Long Term Relationships with a Skin Expert -

This one made my heart sing. Apparently it’s going to be increasingly common for people to build a relationship with a skincare expert so that they can guide them on their skincare choices.

Sometimes the world of skincare can be quite overwhelming and daunting, so having a professional to hold your hand and walk you through the process makes a world of difference. It encompasses my whole ethos behind our Proactive Age Kit and is also the reason my inbox is always open if you need me 🥰

- An ‘Inside Out’ Philosophy -

I was actually beyond delighted to see this one on the list. I think it is very easy to disconnect the surface level of our body (i.e. our skin), from what is truly happening within.

We can use all the skincare we like but if we’re not taking real care of ourselves internally, the results will become stunted at a certain point.

Practising selfcare in all aspects of our life has a tremendous impact and I hope we can all make it our top priority this year. After all, health is wealth!

And that’s the 2022 roundup complete! I’m curious to hear your thoughts on it and perhaps this time next year we can sit and reflect on what actually happened.
