How to Combat Crepey Eyelids
Last weekend, my younger sister Megan came to stay, and at 16, she’s as obsessed with skincare as I am. Her youthful, collagen-rich skin got us talking about where the first signs of aging tend to show up—spoiler alert: it's the eyes!
If you’ve noticed crepey skin around your eyelids, you’re not alone. This is one of the top concerns I hear about every week.
So, what exactly causes crepey eyelids, and more importantly, how can you keep them looking smooth and youthful? Let’s dive in!
What Causes Crepey Eyelids?
Think of your eyelids like a sheet of paper. Every time you smile, laugh, or cry, that “paper” creases. As collagen naturally declines with age, these creases can become permanent, leading to that thin, crepey look.
But the good news? While you can't maintain 16-year-old skin forever, you can absolutely slow down and even reverse the appearance of crepey lids with the right steps. Here’s exactly how...
Step 1: Use an Eye Serum to Boost Collagen
Using a high quality eye treatment is the best thing you can do to make this area act younger. A cream can be too rich and overload the delicate skin, but a serum like the Miracle Eye Complex is absolute perfection.
Its lightweight texture allows it to work deeper and faster and it’s packed with peptides and vitamin C to supercharge your collagen levels and heaps of hyaluronic acid too.
As the skin is so thin, it doesn’t produce enough natural moisture, which exaggerates any lines. The hyaluronic acid is designed to combat this topically for an instant, plumping effect.
And here's some real results from one of our lovely customers, to show you how magical it truly is... ✨
Step 2: Protect Your Collagen with SPF
The sun is the primary culprit of crepey skin as it’s responsible for up to 90% of collagen breakdown. I’m sure most of you know by now that you need to apply Sunbeam Cream - SPF 50 daily to protect against it, but don’t forget to apply it to your lids too!
We made sure that it’s safe for this sensitive area and won’t cause you any irritation at all. I massage it into my face first and then gently press the remainder over my lids with my finger tips. This deliveries maximum coverage without any of it accidentally seeping into my eye itself!
Step 3: Be Gentle When Cleansing
Now we know that smiling, laughing and crying can overwork or lids, imagine the damage that regular scrubbing can cause 🙈 The majority of skin stretching I see happens during the cleansing process, when people are in a hurry to get their face clean. So if you can, just slow it down a touch.
I always remove my mascara with the Dream Clean Cleanser making sure I massage my lashes, rather than my lid itself. Once it’s loosened up and I’m left with rather impressive panda eyes, I take my So-Soft Face Cloth and remove it from the outer corners, inwards. This keeps the skin as taut as possible and I have to say, it can actually feel quite meditative at the end of the day too 😍
And it’s as simple as that! If you follow those 3 steps every day, you’ll be well on your way to maintaining lids as smooth and even as Little Miss Megan herself 😉
