My flawless, everyday makeup tips
This week on Instagram somebody asked which foundation I used, so I linked my current favourite on Stories.
When I checked back later, I genuinely couldn’t believe how many of you had clicked on it, so tonight I thought I’d share my personal tips for flawless, everyday makeup...
I always start with the perfect BASE... 😉
If your skin isn’t taken care of, no amount of makeup is going to help which is why I always prep my skin with my Proactive Age Kit morning routine first. Although every step is important, the last one is responsible for creating your makeup canvas, so I always pay special attention when applying my sunscreen.
BASE Protection – SPF 50 actually makes the perfect makeup primer, so once I’ve massaged it into place, I buff over it with a clean makeup brush to give an even, glowing finish. I then wait 5 minutes so it can settle into place and my makeup glides on like a dream.
It's true what they say, less is always more...
I swear this was one of my biggest beauty mistakes when I was younger. I had acne as a teenager and would do absolutely anything to cover my spots, which usually meant a full face of camouflage makeup. The problem with this is it’s a viscous cycle. The more product you apply, the more it clogs your pores, the more breakouts appear etc. So, swapping to a lightweight product totally changed the game for me.
I started applying a BB or CC cream all over instead and then used a heavy-duty concealer to cover individual spots. Within weeks, my skin began to transform and although my complexion is now clear, I still use the same technique to this day. Now, it stops product creasing in any fine lines and allows for a naturally airbrushed finish.
I always tackle my t-zone...
I’m sure we’ve all been in the situation where we’ve popped to the bathroom shortly after lunchtime, looked in the mirror and seen a shiny t-zone glaring back at us. The temptation is to reach for the face powder as we’ve always been taught, however this can be a recipe for disaster.
Firstly, you’re just pushing the oil back into your pores and mixing it with a heap of product that will become a breeding ground for bacteria. So instead, I always blot my skin first. To do this, I grab a sheet of toilet paper (apologies for the lack of glamour, I promise it’s worth it!), split it in half so I have one very thin layer and then press it over my skin to absorb the oil. It doesn’t disrupt the makeup underneath and I instantly look as fresh as the moment I popped it on.
The other super important thing to note is that if you’re committing to applying your makeup, you must be equally committed to taking it off. Sleeping in foundation dramatically accelerates skin ageing, so I always double cleanse with our Hot Cloth Cleanser as soon as I walk through the door. It effortlessly melts away all the impurities and to me, is the skincare equivalent of taking your bra off!
I hope these little tips help to keep you glowing and radiant all week long and please keep sending me your questions. I always love writing about the things you like to learn 🥰
