My ‘no makeup’ makeup secrets

My ‘no makeup’ makeup secrets

Aug 17, 2025 Amy x

I still read all of your lovely reviews and so many of them mention how The 5 Minute Kit has restored your makeup-free confidence ♥️

But on a day-to-day basis, I think a lot of us, myself included, still like a little touch of something. Thankfully, it’s no longer about covering up, but subtly enhancing your best features.

So, here are my tried and tested tips for barely-there makeup that leave you feeling polished and put together, while ensuring your natural skin is always the star of the show ✨

1. 24/7 Brows and lashes

As we get older, brows and lashes can start to look thinner and more sparse. And because they frame the face, restoring that fullness instantly makes you look more youthful.

The only problem is mascara and brow pencils have a habit of smudging, flaking or vanishing by midday. Which is why tinting is such a game-changer. It was one of the first techniques I learnt as an aesthetician and it’s still something I swear by today.

The best part is, you no longer have to book in at a salon to get it done. At-home tinting kits make it simple to achieve professional-looking results and the colour lasts for weeks. Perfect for this sunshiny August weather, or for anyone heading off on their summer holidays ☀️

2. Fallout with your foundation

When I had acne as a teen, foundation was definitely my comfort blanket. But the more I wore it, the worse my skin became, so I gradually weaned myself off it.

These days, my issue with foundation is less about breakouts and more about the heavy, mask-like finish. It settles into every pore or fine line and usually needs blotting or powdering during the day to keep it in check. And like many of you, I don’t have time for endless touch-ups!

So instead, I simply use a little concealer in a couple of key locations, like the corners of my nose or the centre of my chin and then I leave the rest beautifully bare.

3. The magic’s in the method

When it comes to applying makeup, there are 3 main approaches. Fingers give the lightest, most natural finish, as the warmth of your hands helps the product melt into the skin. The downside is you often need to use more and it can turn patchy.

Brushes, on the other hand, can swing too far the other way, creating a heavier, denser coverage that masks your natural glow.

Which brings me to my favourite method - A damp makeup sponge. It strikes the perfect balance, blending the product seamlessly for a smooth finish, whilst ensuring your natural skin is always the main event.

My final flourish is a drop of The Everything Oil on my lips as I dash out the door and then I’m ready to crack on with my day without giving it second thought.

And whether you’re building towards your makeup-free confidence or simply want to maintain that wonderful, care-free feeling, make sure to come back for next week’s post…I’ve got a very special treat coming your way 😉
