Skincare & Exercise - What to apply and when

BASE SKNCARE

I had a great conversation with my sister in law about skincare, as she was wondering how to work her routines around her exercise schedule. In particular, she wasn’t sure if she was over using her Hot Cloth Cleanser.

Now skincare and exercise is something that confuses many people as it can be difficult to know what products to apply, when.

So I thought I’d share my advice on how to take care of your skin before and after your workouts, depending on the time of day you exercise.

Morning Workouts:
If you exercise first thing in the morning (go you!), you don’t need to cleanse beforehand.

Instead, add a thin layer of the Ultimate Moisturiser as it will keep your skin hydrated and balanced from all the excess sweat in your workout. If you're exercising outside, don't forget to apply your SPF 50 to protect your skin (come rain or shine).

Once you’re done, shower it off, apply your full morning skincare routine and any makeup. You’re now ready to crack on with your day.

Mid-day Workouts:
Can I start by saying how much I admire you guys because you basically have to get ready twice!

So, if you’re fully made up for the day you’re going to need to start with cleansing to remove your makeup (eye makeup can stay on). Apply a light layer of moisturiser for hydration and your SPF for protection if you’re exercising outside.

Then workout until your heart is content, shower it off and follow up with your full morning skincare routine and makeup before enjoying the rest of your afternoon.

Evening Workouts:
Similarly to a mid-day workout, start with cleansing to remove your makeup from the day (eye makeup can stay on). Apply a light layer of moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated and your SPF to stay protected if you’re exercising outside. As the nights are currently lighter you’ll definitely need it.

Once you’re done, have your shower and follow up with your full evening skincare routine and you’re ready for bed.

If however you’ve got post-workout, evening plans you’ll need to shower, do your morning skincare routine, pop your makeup on, go and have a lovely night and then do your evening skincare routine when you get home...a little more longwinded but your skin will most definitely thank you for it!

I hope that helps you navigate the world of exercise and skincare a little easier and eradicates any confusion. I promise it all makes a difference!
