Stop dry skin this winter with these easy lifestyle tips

Stop dry skin this winter with these easy lifestyle tips

BASE SKNCARE
This week I wanted to talk to you about one of the most popular subjects currently flooding my inbox…The dreaded, dry, winter skin.

The older I get, the more impact this has from my head to my toes, so I thought I’d share my top tips for banishing those cheese grater-esque legs and restoring soft, supple skin.
#1. Bathe like a baby
This is as much a reminder for me as it is for you. A few weeks back, my fiancée, Will, got in the shower after me and jumped at the temperature…I’d clearly been breaking my own rule!

As much as a hot bath or shower feels heavenly at the time, it’s just about the worst thing you can do for your skin. It causes irritation and strips away natural oils just as mild sunburn would.

Instead, turn your shower down to a temperature suitable for bathing a baby. The difference in your skin will be mind-blowing!
#2. Pat don't rub
Once you’re out of the shower and reach for the towel, make sure you’re not too overzealous with the drying. You want to pat your skin rather than rub it to prevent aggravation and whilst your skin is still damp, smother yourself in body lotion. Anything unscented and uncoloured will work a treat.
#3. Winterise your washing
Unless you have particularly sensitive skin, this is an aspect of skincare that is often overlooked. During the winter especially, I always recommend looking for fragrance and dye free detergents as these ingredients can make your skin super itchy when it’s lacking moisture.

Dryer sheets are also a no-go, you want to use products as gentle as possible…Again, imagine you’re washing for a baby.

#4. Buff your skin
No matter how good your treatment serums and moisturisers are, dry skin will remain present without light exfoliation.

This is why a few drops of our Exfoliating Cell Renewal Serum is so crucial each night. The acids within the formula will gently break-down the dry, dead skin on your face without any need for scrubbing at all.

This enables all the hydrating and nourishing benefits of your Super Serum and Ultimate Moisturiser to travel deeper into your skin and deliver transformative results.

If you’re not sure how to add it into your routine, the Proactive Age Kit walks you through each step with ease.

#5. Halt the hand sanitiser
I know during these Covid times, our hand sanitisers have been practically glued to us. However, these little products are packed full of alcohol that can cause our skin to become red, patchy and scaly.

Wherever possible, I recommend good, old-fashioned hand washing instead. Use a nourishing (obviously antibacterial) wash, pat them dry and follow up with a layer of hand cream.

Putting these tiny tweaks into practice will work almost instantly, so I can guarantee your skin will be merry and bright for the New Year.
