Dark circles have graced almost every skin consultation I’ve ever had the privilege of conducting. In fact, most people struggle with them at one point or another, so if you’re currently dealing with the darkness, you’re definitely not alone 💕
The reason it’s such a common concern is because there are numerous causes. Many of them we’re aware of, such as lack of sleep or even dehydration, but some factors are far more specific and almost slip under the radar. So tonight, we’re going to break down the lesser known culprits together, to help locate your specific trigger and send dark circles packing…
1. When dark circles run in the family
Approximately only 20% of skin ageing is genetic, but when it comes to dark circles, genetics can play a much bigger role. Some skin types are naturally thinner or more transparent under the eyes, making blood vessels more visible and the area appear shadowy. Ethnicity can also influence this, as certain skin tones are more prone to pigmentation or hollowness under the eyes. So, we can thank our parents for their generosity with this one 😂
2. Iron Deficiency
As women, low iron levels are something we’re naturally more prone to thanks to our ever changing hormones. Low iron levels mean our blood doesn’t carry enough oxygen, which can lead to paler skin and more pronounced under-eye shadows. So try and give your levels a natural boost by eating leafy greens, nuts, seeds and meat, if your diet allows.

3. Pigment problems
The truth is, your dark circles might actually be hyperpigmentation, as your under-eyes is a very common location for it to appear. In women, it’s closely linked to our hormones, but sun damage from wearing metal sunglasses can be a trigger too! The metal heats up and weakens the fragile skin below, so always opt for plastic frames where possible.
4. Stress shows up here first
Stress wreaks havoc on our bodies and it’s especially unkind to our under-eyes. It ramps up inflammation and disrupts sleep, leading to that dreaded zombie look. Which explains why people ask if we’re okay, even when we’re trying our best to look it! Our emotions show up on our faces, so make sure you carve out time to rest and you’ll look just as good as you feel ♥️

5. Hands off!
I know it sounds super basic, but rubbing your eyes is one of the worst things you can do. Your hands injure the blood vessels underneath your eyes which causes blood to seep out and pool, creating that dark appearance. So be extra mindful not to scrub when removing mascara and don’t rub them when you’re tired either. Instead, gently place the palms of your hands over them and the warmth is naturally more calming.
6. Blue light & bleary eyes
Sometimes, our modern lifestyles have more impact than we realise. Long hours in front of a screen can strain our eyes, leading to puffiness and poor circulation. This inhibits the skin’s renewal process making the whole area look darker and more tired over time. So we need to stop ignoring the advice about taking regular screen breaks…For the sake of our brains and our eyeballs!
Don't panic, there's brighter days ahead...
Fortunately, no matter the cause of your dark circles, the same treatment applies and it’s as easy as pie.
Just a single drop of the Miracle Eye Complex both morning and night. This is because we included an extraordinary ingredient called Brighlette, which is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of dark patches and visibly brighten the skin.
And if you want to turbocharge the results at this time of year - run your So-Soft Face Cloth under cold water, gently press it under your eyes for 30 seconds and then apply the Complex. The cold helps to constrict your blood vessels and reduce the darkness, for maximum impact on application 😉
So although dark circles are more common than most of us realise and have more triggers than I can count, they certainly don’t have to stick around…You’ve got this 💪🏼
