The Collagen-Boosting Secret of Bone Broth: A Celebrity-Favourite

The secret drink celebrities swear by...

Wow, what a whirlwind week it’s been! We’ve been busy little BASE elves, stacking up Kits for Black Friday and prepping our first-ever Limited Edition Christmas gifts. And just when we thought things couldn’t get more magical, we were treated to a festive sprinkle of snow too 🎄

While we count down the three sleeps until our early access sale, let’s dive into tonight’s topic: the age-old beauty secret of bone broth.

What is Bone Broth and Why Is It Trending?

Although bone broth has been trending recently, it’s far from a modern-day discovery. Early evidence shows it dates back to prehistoric times, with its roots deeply planted in Ancient China. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, bone broth is celebrated for its restorative, healing, and skin-plumping benefits, making it a staple for centuries.

In fact, I once worked in a clinic where I looked after a Chinese lady in her 70s - Although you’d have sworn she was 40 without seeing her medical questionnaire. She adored bone broth and was actually working on her own secret recipe and I often wonder if she ever managed to bring her youth potion to the masses.

The other person obsessed with this golden liquid is Salma Hayek. At 58, she again does not look her age and in 2015 she said she believes it’s the reason she’s managed to avoid Botox. Salma drinks a cup a day and said ‘It is very good to keep yourself young’. So, are these wonderful women ahead of their time and do we all need to get pouring ourselves a mug?

The Collagen Connection

The wondrous thing about bone broth, is that there is absolutely no denying that it’s naturally jam-packed with collagen. Collagen is what’s responsible for keeping your skin firm and lifted, which is why I often describe it as the scaffolding of your face. From the age about 25 though, we start losing approximately 1% of this scaffolding each year and this accelerates once we hit the menopause.

So, if we want to keep our skin as young as possible for as long as possible, we need all the collagen we can get. This is why The 5 Minute Kit is designed to supercharge your levels topically for that plump, glossy, eternally youthful complexion. But giving your levels a boost from the inside out, is never a bad idea either!

This means from a professional point of view, bone broth definitely gets a green light from me. To make it easily at home, you’d simply need to boil a chicken carcass for a good few hours on a low heat and add in some herbs and seasoning to make it more palatable.

How to Make Bone Broth at Home

Making bone broth at home is simple. All you need is:

  • A chicken carcass (great for reducing food waste!)
  • Water, herbs, and seasoning
  • A few hours to let it simmer on low heat

Don’t have time to stand over the hob? No problem! There are fantastic ready-made bone broths available that are just as effective. And if you’re already taking a collagen supplement, you can skip the broth as you’ve got all bases covered!

Plant-Based Alternatives for Collagen Support

For my plant-based friends (like my lovely mum 🥰), bone broth might not be an option, but don’t worry - I’ve got you covered! BASE is 100% vegan and cruelty-free, so all your topical collagen needs are sorted.

For an internal boost, try making a vegetable broth with skin-loving ingredients like:

  • Shiitake mushrooms
  • Seaweed
  • Ginger root
  • Carrots and fennel

These ingredients are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to keep your skin radiant. Plus, there are ready-made plant-based broths available too!

Countdown to Black Friday...

So, this warming snack will keep our collagen levels topped up internally this festive season. But if your levels are in need of a boost topically, I’ll see you back here on Wednesday morning for our biggest and best sale of the year ✨

Black Friday early access will begin at 7am and make sure you run rather than walk as last year, all the Kits sold out early 🙌🏼

I can’t wait to hear what you think of the Limited Edition Christmas gift too, as we wanted to do something extra special as a big thank you for all your incredible support this year - I’m truly beyond grateful to have you with us ♥️
