We’re officially at peak summer and I know many of you are about to jet off on your travels ✈️ And there’s no denying it, people always have extra sparkle in their skin after a well-deserved break ✨
But contrary to popular belief, it has very little to do with a tan. In fact, almost all of that lit-from-within glow comes from a few simple habits that we can recreate at home, whenever we want…
1. Reset your nervous system
One thing that drives me nuts about modern living, is that we value hustle way more than we value rest. Because you can’t give your best to anything, when you’re constantly running on empty.
On holiday, we’re far more accepting of downtime. A couple of hours by the pool with a book, a quick siesta before dinner or simply stopping to watch the sunset, all feel perfectly normal.
But back home, it’s all about productivity. And that constant stress increases inflammation, causing spots, wrinkles and that dull, tired look. So give yourself permission to simply ‘be’ for a little while each day and watch what happens to your skin 😍
2. Detach from your desk
I don’t know about you, but I could genuinely spend an entire week at my desk and barely think twice about it. Yet our skin needs movement.
Those slow walks to dinner (does anyone else love the smell of warm, evening air? 😍), or aimless wanders around new towns, do more than create memories. They improve circulation, bring fresh nutrients to your skin and make you glow like no filter can.
It’s why I now schedule one walk every day, come rain or shine. Because it genuinely makes me feel as good as it makes my skin look.
3. Go au naturel
I always feel far less pressure to wear makeup on holiday. And whilst it’s a myth that makeup stops your skin “breathing” (because our skin definitely doesn’t have lungs 😂), it certainly appreciates the chance to be left alone.
I often compare it to taking your hair out of a tight ponytail. It wasn’t suffocating, but it definitely feels more relaxed once it’s loose. And your skin reacts in exactly the same way.
So at home, I start my day with my 5 Minute Kit, then keep my makeup simple. A touch of concealer, a lick of mascara and a pinky-coral lip balm to bring back the holiday feels. It leaves me looking polished, but lets my skin shine through.
So whether you’ve just unpacked your suitcase, you’re counting down the days or you’re staying home this summer, remember this…Your holiday glow was never about the destination, it was always about how you treated yourself while you were there ♥️
