Is Tremella Mushroom worth the hype?

Is Tremella Mushroom worth the hype?

Jun 7, 2026 Amy x

Most of the time, skincare ingredient trends come and go because they're fuelled by clever marketing, celebrity endorsements or social media hype.

But every now and then, something special hits the beauty headlines and genuinely deserves the attention it gets. Which is exactly what happened in Vogue this week.

This particular ingredient is naturally derived and backed by science, so please don't jump to conclusions when I tell you that it's actually a mushroom.

The Mushroom changing everything

Used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, Tremella was traditionally consumed as a tonic to support longevity, vitality and healthy, radiant skin. In fact, one of the Four Great Beauties of China, Yang Guifei, was said to enjoy it daily to help maintain her famously youthful complexion. And now, modern science is beginning to explain exactly why.

Studies have shown that Tremella not only supports collagen synthesis to help skin look and act younger, but it can also improve hydration by up to 2.6 times for plumper, bouncier skin.

To put that into perspective, it has moisture-retention properties that outperform hyaluronic acid by around 15%. Despite hyaluronic acid being considered the gold standard for hydration for decades.

Eat It. Don't Just Wear It.

The Vogue article talks all about applying Tremella topically, but during my research into this ingredient over the past few years I kept coming back to the same conclusion. The most exciting benefits come when you consume it, just as they did in Ancient China.

But rather than brew it into a tea or tonic every morning, which I definitely don't have time for, I began exploring how to incorporate it a little more easily. What I discovered is that when Tremella is broken down into an ingestible powder, it becomes a supplement called Coll-Egan.

The ingredient that underpins Youthfuel

Coll-Egan is a powerful form of vegan collagen that provides a 100% plant match to human collagen. Rather than simply adding animal collagen into your body, it acts like a software upgrade for your skin cells, helping them behave younger and produce more collagen naturally.

It also offers 10x greater stability during digestion, meaning it can actually reach where it's needed most, whilst remaining completely ethical and cruelty free.

For me it was an absolute no-brainer when creating Youthfuel and it's this mushroom magic that underpins the entire youth-boosting formula.

The proof is in the complexion...

I bumped into an old colleague I hadn't seen for 12 years just yesterday and the very first thing she said was "Wow, you haven't changed one bit!"

So don't just take Vogue's word for it. The Tremella mushroom results are quite literally bursting through the history books, written all over my face and I suspect, many of yours too 😉🙌🏼
