Kate Winslet’s words changed my week…

Kate Winslet’s words changed my week…

Dec 14, 2025 Amy x

This week, I read an interview with Kate Winslet in The Times where she said something that’s stayed with me for longer than I expected. She spoke about how ‘young women have no concept of what being beautiful really is’.

And since reading it, I’ve found myself quietly pondering it at odd moments like on walks, while cleansing my skin, or sat on the train to London.

We now live in a world where almost anything can be ‘fixed’. Injections exist for nearly every concern and things like face lifts, that were once considered extreme, are becoming as popular as Botox appointments. In fact, Google searches for ‘mini face lift’ reportedly rose by over 5,000% recently.

And I want to be really clear here…As an aesthetician, I never judge anyone for the choices they make. Everyone’s relationship with their face, their body and their confidence is deeply personal. What feels right for one person may not for another. And that is more than okay.

But Kate’s comment struck a deeper chord for me, because it aligns with something I’ve always believed and quietly built BASE and The 5 Minute Kit around.

My approach to skincare has never been about changing who you are. It’s about helping you feel more comfortable as who you are. That’s it.

The phrase ‘self-care’ isn’t one I naturally gravitate towards because it’s become a bit diluted and overused. However, it’s probably the closest way to describe my philosophy. Looking after your skin isn’t about chasing your youth or erasing time. It’s about prioritising yourself, showing up daily and feeling your very best.

At 33, I don’t want to look like my 23-year-old self. And I have no doubt that when I’m 43, I’ll feel exactly the same way. My only real goal is to be the best version of myself in whatever chapter I’m in. I don’t want to rewind, or to compete and I don’t want to disappear behind someone else’s idea of beauty.

So, without wishing to sound like a giant cliché, as we edge closer to the season of ‘new year, new me’, I wanted to gently remind myself and anyone who relates, to ignore that noise entirely. You have never and will never, need reinventing.

I wholeheartedly agree with Kate that how you care for yourself, how you show up for others and how you move through the world, will always be the most beautiful qualities you have.

And BASE, to me, simply supports that. It’s not about becoming someone new, it’s about feeling completely confident in who you already are ♥️
